Fashion Blogs Destroy My Soul

I stupidly subject myself to the soul-destroying task of trawling through fashion blogs.

Why, oh why do I do this to myself?

It leaves me staring at my over-flowing closet and choking back tears (let’s not get too dramatic…) as I stare at the disco pants I told myself would look better on me once I started working out more (that went well, I’ll tell you what! <sarcasm x 1000>) and the tight red wine coloured dress that looked great in the dressing room but highlights my ALL flaws in my badly lit university bedroom.
Not that I hate my body, it looks great in certain clothes for sure. I just always have that Homer Simpson moment where I look at the pictures of the girls wearing the clothes I purchased online and how their bodies look great, then turn back to mine in the mirror and ejaculate (haha,
ejaculate) with, “WHY DOESN’T MINE LOOK LIKE THAT?”
(I’m referring to the barbecue pit moment. One of the best.)

I don’t know if it’s about my body or if it’s about my feeling of inadequacy in the style department.
I’ve always been the kind of girl that values style over trying to look ‘hot’ or ‘sexy’ ultimately because I felt more comfortable and happy when I thought I was achieving the stylish look that I was going for (which honestly seems to be a mixture of punk and indie with a little bit of vintage adorableness thrown in) rather than dressing to simply attract others (in a hot sexy kind of way). I’m not saying one or the other is good or bad, but just that you should do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable and happy.

And so I wander from fashion blog to fashion blog and drool at their clothes and style…. and it leaves me depressed BUT inspired. Inspiredly depressed. Depressively inspired.
Whatever.

To end this on a positive note though,
I bought a swanky new skirt and it exceeded my expectations (I wasn’t crazy about it when seeing it online or on the coat hanger) but I was pleasantly surprised when I slipped it on in the changing room.
